Jazz Festival: Usually held in the first two weeks of May with celebrations lasting for a minimum of ten days. There are a variety of shows at different places on the island, with key acts performing in Pigeon Island National Park. This is one of the biggest events of the year and the largest jazz festival in the Caribbean. Angie Stone, Anita Baker, George Benson, Amy Winehouse and NeYo have performed in recent years.
Carnival: St Lucia carnival is a very extravagant affair, which runs throughout June and July. The main days of the carnival are 16^th and 17^th July when there are parades and music and a variety of costumes. There is also a Beauty Queen and steel band competition.
Atlantic Rally for Cruisers: The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) is an annual transatlantic sailing competition for racer and cruiser yachts that formed in 1986. ARC starts at the end of November in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and ends before Christmas in the Caribbean destination of Rodney Bay in Saint Lucia. The ARC is the largest transocean sailing event in the world and regularly attracts over 200 boats of many different shapes and sizes. The route takes between 14 and 21 days aided by trade winds, and covers over 2,700 nautical miles.
Independence Day: Independence Day Celebrating the day when St Lucia achieved full independence from the United Kingdom, this national holiday hosts a number of events across the island, particularly in the capital, Castries. Held on 22^nd February, celebrations include live music, calypso and games.
Nobel Laureate Week: Per capita, St Lucia has more Nobel Laureates than any other country. Derek Walcott won the Literature Prize in 1992, while Arthur Lewis won for Economics in 1979. The islanders are enormously proud of this achievement and a week is set aside every January to celebrate all things cultural.
St Lucia Bill Fishing Tournament: A three-day competition in September, open to anglers from all over the Caribbean. The Marina at Marigot Bay on St Lucia's scenic west coast is the new venue for the event; however the weighing station is at Rodney Bay where all are invited to see the catches at the end of each fishing day, with the Blue Marlin as the most sought-after catch.
Heineken Kalalu Festival: Held in December, this is the Caribbean’s most diverse musical event featuring international artists and sponsored by Heineken Music. A four-day festival of fun, food, and fantastic music, ranging from the traditional to the popular, it celebrates St. Lucia’s Creole and Anglo-French links to Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia.
National Creole Day: Held annually on the Sunday closest to 28th October, International Creole Day celebrates the island's rich cultural identity with a varied programme of performance. Typically held in rural communities where the Creole identity is strongest, visitors can experience storytelling and music in the lyrical kweyol (Creole) language, along with tasty Creole dishes such as fishcakes, bwapain woti (roasted breadfruit), and the national dish, greenfig and saltfish.
