St Lucia offers a wide variety of activities to keep visitors entertained, from natural wonders such as pristine white sand beaches and rainforest scenery, to scuba diving and Piton climbing. Open air markets for fantastic shopping and exceptional restaurants provide refined local cuisine.
- Sulphur Springs
The Sulphur Springs can be found in “The World’s only drive-in Volcano”. This is a large caldera, which emits steam and boiling water. A stream from the springs runs down to mud bathing pools, which are reputed to have therapeutic qualities for the skin. Further up from the Sulphur Springs are stone carvings that depict different gods and goddesses and other historic artifacts from the era of the native Arawak Indian.
- Diamond Waterfalls
The Diamond Botanical Gardens, Waterfall, Mineral Baths and Nature Trail is a tourist complex where you can walk through the stunning gardens commissioned by King Louis XIV and bathe in the mineral rich waters of the baths fed by sulphur streams. The waterfall and nature walk are an ideal way to enjoy your newly revitalised body and the surroundings are simply beautiful.
- Marine National Park
There are some spectacular diving and snorkeling sites along the wall of the Pitons. Created in 1995, the Soufriere Marine Management Area (SMMA) was designed specifically to cater to the myriad of uses in the area, reduce conflict among users and protect critical marine resources. The Management Area is divided into five zones: marine reserves, fishing priority areas, yacht mooring areas, recreational areas and multiple use areas.
- Gros Piton Climb
Gros Piton (the larger of the two pitons) is a four mile round trip, with the two mile climb to the summit ascending some 1,900ft. At the summit there are amazing views across the island and of the Sugar Beach development below.
- Fond Doux Estate
Fond Doux is a 19th Century colonial plantation. This 250 year old working plantation is also a guesthouse and restaurant. Visitors can experience the day-to-day running of a cocoa plantation which includes harvesting, drying, grinding, dancing and rolling the cocoa, including the formation of the finished chocolate product. Visitors include Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla Parker-Bowles.
- Ladera
A resort situated higher up in the Val des Pitons. Ladera features the Dasheene restaurant, a very popular dining destination on the island with stunning views over the Pitons and the Caribbean Sea and award-winning cuisine. Celebrities including singer John Legend have been known to dine in the restaurant.
- Soufrière
The original capital of the Island, Soufrière is now a quaint fishing village. Enjoy stunning views of the Pitons that frame Sugar Beach, soak up the atmosphere of Caribbean life and enjoy the local culture in this colourful and lively town.
- Golf
The St Lucia Golf & Country Club is situated in the exclusive Cap Estate. An 18-hole championship course with sea views, it has been recently improved and is now under Troon Golf Management. The club has an excellent restaurant and is a challenge for accomplished players.
Plans are underway for a further Jack Nicklaus course in the north east of the island, with Atlantic views. Work has started on a Greg Norman course on the east coast, which is scheduled to be completed within 18 months.
